I couldn't find a job and I kept thinking I wasn't good enough to get one. I stopped having that attitude and all of a sudden I GOT a job!! I need to stop with the negativity and que the positivity. Even this week my goal is to stay positive, no matter what. It really does make life easier.

Re: Find the fantastic in yourself

Finding (or re-discovering) the fantastic in myself has made all the difference in the world. To keep my old fridge cool enough long enough to buy a new one, I placed the whole bucket of ice from the freezer and a frozen turkey in the fridge ... that and I told the kids to stop leaving the door open!!! :)

Re: The world of fruits and veggies is getting turned upside down …

I like to pull weeds too. Have you ever tried rosemary in a good loaf of bread? Delicious. I also love walnuts, whole grains, and yes....dried plums, otherwise known as PRUNES. They are so good with a dab of peanut butter (isn't everything??).

Re: Just found this article on 15 “age-erasing” superfoods …

What are some of your favorite "backyard" superfoods?

For me, apples, almonds, and whole grains top the list.

Re: Untraditional

I'm untraditional as I do all the cooking in my home, and I'm a guy :-)

As you, I make up dishes as I go. There is no need to worry about getting too much sodium, soy protein isolate, HFCS, etc. if you only consume very few processed foods in the first place! Rather than looking at every single food label, why not just cut down on processed foods and make life more simple?? Easy!

Re: Soy Protein Isolate

Wow Kyle, you teach me something new everyday!

Re: Soy Protein Isolate

Nice article. Soy is a tough ingredient to work into processed foods because the beneficial stuff (omega-3, isoflavones) doesn't taste very good to the mainstream palate. Therefore, the isolates are very popular. It's not dangerous, but it lacks the healthful punch of some of the other soy foods you mentioned.

On a side note, one of the popular types of soybeans is ALA (omega-3) soybeans. The seeds have been bred/modified to dramatically reduce the ALA that a soybean will produce. The product tastes better (no oxidized omega-3 fishy/beany flavors), but it lacks the beneficial ALA. I think the isoflavones are still there, though.

Re: Soy Protein Isolate

Thanks for your thoughts on this, Gina! I have been wondering about soy protein isolate and have taken your approach. I try to limit processed foods in general but don't worry too much if I eat some soy protein isolate as I don't eat many processed foods.

Re: Your Next Presciption May Be Exercise

Eat well and exercise to feel great ... what a novel concept!
